Sommerregen by Joris is a music video that makes me happy. In this video, I take a look at the lyrics (Liedtext) and share some tips about German vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. Let me know in the comments what you think of this song and if there are other German songs you want me to present. Note: am Reden (R should be capitalized because it's a nominalized form)

Thanks everybody - ¿Qué te parece? - What do you think? Leave a comment or subscribe to my channel if you like the video. What other songs in Spanish should I present on my channel? Grammar tips: - Add an -é to most infinitive verbs to form the future tense (yo = first person singular) - Remove -ar from an infinitive verb and replace with -ando OR remove -er/ -ir from an infinitive and replace with -iendo = (gerund form of a verb, -ing in English) - han llegado = (they) have arrived = el perfecto (present perfect tense). - quizás (yo) te encuentre (alguna vez) = subjunctive mood = perhaps I'll find/meet you some day - the perhaps / and the "alguna vez" - tell us it is an unsure future, therefore subjunctive is used.
Pronunciation tips: - no puede esperar (it can't wait) - the final e from puede elides with the initial e of esperar. - Listen to the rhythm of the music to understand correct stress - which notes/syllables have the strongest value and which are deemphasized? - I have my own more western accent, but in Spain, the letters Z and C are often pronounced similarly to TH in the English word "thick": Cruzando amplios mares LIKE IN ENGLISH: - The letter C followed by an A, O, or U (back vowels) makes the C hard (k-sound) - ex.: escalando altas montañas - The letter C followed by an E or I (front vowels) makes the C soft (s-sound) - ex.: descendiendo los glaciares. Vocabulary tips: atravesar = to cross = cruzar = to cross. They are synonymous a través de = across - a prepositional phrase = a través de desiertos (across deserts) las selvas = forests/jungles / el bosque = the woods/ los bosques - the forests - las junglas the jungles. **selva can mean forest or jungle los cráteres de Marte - (Mars the planet (named after the Roman god of war) vs. martes (Tuesday, named after the same God). llegar a una conclusión = to arrive at a conclusion = to conclude/to end (like English) = Everything has come to an (its) end (Todas las secuencias han llegado a su conclusión).
Welcome to my series on learning German through vocal music. Today I am explaining POCAHONTAS by AnnenMayKantereit, a break-up song that I like and I highly recommend you check out their music video. An der Haltestelle stehen = standing at the (bus)stop und es tut Weh = it's painful dich schon wieder so wiederzusehen = to see you like this again Und es tut weh, dass man sich nur sieht = it hurts that I only see you Weil bei mir soviel Zeug von dir rumliegt, = because you left so much stuff (Zeug) lying around my place (bei mir) das ich nicht mehr ertrage. = That I can't endure (put up with / take).
Freight Train is a masterpiece of Americana. The narrator wants to be buried near the train tracks, referring to a familiar place - old Chestnut Street. Living near the railroad track "on the other side of the tracks" refers also to a shared American experience with economic connotations of working class.
When I'm dead and in my grave / No more good times will I crave grave - a final resting place of the deceased; where your body is buried crave - to want something very much. Some people crave attention, others crave certain foods (especially pregnant mothers, as folk wisdom suggests). When people die, they no longer crave food, sleep, money, love or shelter.
Welcome to my channel and my series on building German vocabulary. Learning music and song lyrics is an awesome way to learn language because the music itself strengthens both comprehension and memory. Learning authentic and culturally relevant texts improves your understanding of the German speaking world, while attempting to sing along will do wonders for your pronunciation. Today we're learning "Ich bin nur wegen dir hier" by German jazz musician Max Raabe. After I sing through the piece, I'll go through specific grammar points such as specific vocabulary, verbal phrases and word order.

I'm available for hire as coach, teacher, writer, editor, analyst, consultant, marketeer, content specialist, translator, interpreter, MC, facilitator or performer. This blog is a portfolio of my interest and abilities in various languages of which I have extensive knowledge. I am also a student of several other languages that I am less intimately familiar with and they all bring me great joy. I currently hold degrees in Language and Literature as well as in Vocal Music Performance, both fields in which poetics and interpretation are no strangers. Archives
